Noting the recent implementation of many of the measures suggested to protect the Galapagos Islands' delicate and unique ecosystem, UNESCO have confirmed that they will be looking at the possibility of removing the Galapagos from their list of endangered World Heritage Sites.
The decision will be taken at a meeting this June, to be held in Seville, where the Heritage Committee will study a report produced by the Galapagos Islands National Park team. We wish them luck and hope that UNESCO will recognise the real strides made by the new Ecuadorean government in protecting the Galapagos for all of us.
