Planning a holiday in Ecuador's Amazon rainforest? It's always a good idea to visit your doctor or local travel clinic before heading overseas, and as well as making sure that their usual boosters are up-to-date, most travellers to the Amazon are advised to get a yellow fever innoculation as well but the presentation of a valid Yellow Fever certificate hasn't been a legal requirement for Ecuador in the same way that it has been for visits to other countries.
However, a recent case of Yellow Fever in the Brazilian Amazon, close to the border with Ecuador, has resulted in the provincial administration of Sucumbios in Ecuador requiring all visitors to show a valid yellow fever innoculation certificate. This affects several of the most popular jungle lodges such as Tapir Lodge and Cuyabeno Lodge.
We advise all our customers to get the yellow fever innoculation in any case, but obviously anyone planning to visit the rainforest as part of their Ecuador holiday should now make doubly sure to visit their doctor before travelling. The innoculation lasts for 10 years, so it's a good one to have "under your belt" for the future too1
